Don’t neglect your blog: Why you should be posting regularly

Is your blog full of cobwebs? Do you want to attract more readers and increase engagement on your website? The answer is simple…post regularly!

A blog is a fantastic thing to have on your website. It’s a great way of sharing information and knowledge with your customers but keeping it up to date is important and with a new year just around the corner, all you have to do is come up with 12 things to talk about, just one a month.

How often shall I write?

All too often I see sites with a blog and the last post was 6 months ago – I’ve even been that guy.

If you can’t keep it up to date, even if you just start out with 10 posts, remove all traces of the date you wrote that on the post, that way it becomes timeless.

Up-to-date blogs are good for SEO though. It keeps your website fresh with new content and posts are always good for sharing online. Sharing online generates traffic and traffic is good for SEO. Good SEO drives more new traffic back to your website and the cycle continues.

Up-to-date, informative blog posts also show authority. They show that you know what you’re talking about and not just some 50 quid sid out to grab a bit of beer money playing some dodgy MP3s you have on a hard drive you bought on eBay.

What can I write about?

Most visitors to this website are DJs, and it’s a common question. My reply is simple… “write about stuff you know about” and I wonder what that could be. Music! Yep, music!

Think about the questions your clients ask you the most. You could write endless blog posts about music – the top 10 of a particular genre for example, or the most popular first dance songs you’re playing, or cake-cutting songs.

Music posts are easy because that’s your job.

Don’t start your blog with…

“Hi and welcome to my new blog where I will post weekly updates about what I’m up to…”

BORING. That sort of post isn’t going to engage ANYONE!

Start your blog with…

“The top 10 biggest mistakes EVERYONE makes when booking a DJ”

Can you see how the second one is going to attract more attention?

Let me tell you, blogging is incredibly time-consuming and there’s the potential to run out of ideas but let me tell you, the benefits of consistent blog posts far outweigh the effort it takes to create them.

Use a calendar to plan your posts in advance and stay organised.

Set a schedule to stick to it, whether it’s once a week or twice a month, consistency is key. Don’t be afraid to mix it up and experiment with different types of posts featuring lists, tutorials or interviews.

Don’t stress about perfection. Your blog posts don’t have to be perfect, they just need to be interesting and informative.

So there you have it. Regular blog posts may seem like a chore but they’re essential for attracting readers, improving your search engine rankings and generating enquiries.

With a little creativity and planning, blogging can be fun and rewarding so what are you waiting for, get writing!
